Abstract
On the one hand, the article deals with the discourse on the digitality of objects, i.e. it looks at digital representations or representations of physical objects as (new) entities. The specific properties of the objects and the epistemological approaches that open up as a result will be discussed. On the other hand, with regard to these accesses, new possibilities for the generation of knowledge and knowledge will be demonstrated, which can offer computer-aided investigation of digital objects, their integration into the structures of virtual research environments or infrastructures, the application of discursive and collaborative practices of annotation and networking as well as the preparation for algorithmic analyses and visualization procedures.
