This dissertation project deals with the Greek festival culture of the Eastern Aegean during the Hellenistic and Roman Imperial periods. The project examines to what extent archaeological methods combined with approaches used in researching space, ritual and identity can contribute to research into ancient festivals. To this end, selected festival complexes will be reconstructed based on the interdependence of material, performative and mnemo-historical structures. In addition, the structure of festivals will be examined in a historical context with regard to the generation and arrangement of social images of identity.
