Research Group C-II took a complementary approach dedicated to different kinds of imagery that represent and structure spaces. On the one hand, the culturally comparative approach was to detect homologies and autonomies within the iconography of spaces between different cultures of the ancient world (Egypt, Ancient Near East, and Greek and Roman cultures). On the other hand, it was to compare different systems of pictorial coding of space and other media systems concerning spatial representation, for instance linguistic coding and linguistic spatialization.
