The summer school deals on the one hand with the comparison as a scientific instrument in the study of antiquity and with the knowledge potential that comparison holds in different disciplines, and on the other hand with the limits that comparison has, as a method.
Workshops will give by means of concrete examples a theoretical reflection upon methods of comparison used in research and will discuss problems in their application. The workshops include the following core areas on research on the ancient world and neighbouring disciplines: Archaeology, History, Philology, Philosophy, Theology and History of Science.
Principal investigators and doctoral researchers of the Berlin Graduate School of Ancient Studies (BerGSAS), of the Excellence Cluster Topoi and of Distant Worlds – Munich Graduate School for Ancient Studies as well as further experts will join the summer school as speakers.
