Until very recently, the idea of deliberate metaphor has not found application or critical appraisal from the perspective of ancient texts. We therefore want to seriously consider the idea of how to measure intentional strategies of metaphorical expression in cases where elicitation (and other experimental strategies of data collection) are not an option.
The focus of the conference is thus how languages mark deliberateness, from theoretical and methodological perspectives as well as by means of both more general language-based (typological, quantitative) and more specific case-study-based (text-oriented, qualitative) analytical approaches.
We also hope to benefit from the perspectives of other, non-textual modalities, which we hope will help us establish to what extent cognitive perspectives to texts in dead languages are valid.
Please confirm your intention to attend our workshop by the 24.06.2016, as places will be limited and the event will be partially catered.
