Aristotle’s physical treatises, especially Physics and On the Heavens, contain many scattered notes on natural and forced locomotion. They relate closely to his concepts of elements, heaviness, lightness, weightlessness, and the basic geometrical structure of the cosmos. The purpose of this talk is to explore some new perspectives with regard to the degree of underlying coherence that Aristotle’s discussions on locomotion may reflect.
