This workshop contributes to the two projects in research group D-2, which examine the doctrines of physicians described by the sources as “Pneumatist” and their relation to Stoicism. Through a close reading of a selection of fragments of the physicians Athenaeus of Attaleia and Archigenes of Apamea – the research objects of projects D-2-3 and D-2-2 respectively – we aim to improve our understanding of the contents and context of key fragments and thus assist in fulfilling some of the main aims of these projects, namely: (1) the reconstruction of the doctrines of these physicians, (2) the characterization of the relation between them, their relation to Stoic authors and doctrines  and (3) the identification of the origin and meaning of the title “Pneumatist”.
